RAF 2019 Anniversary Tour

With a series of 10 charity concerts, the Royal Air Force Music Charitable Trust is pleased to announce their 2019 Anniversary Tour will start at the Spa in Scarborough on Friday 17th May.

Celebrating the 15th Anniversary of the charity, and in accordance with its charitable objects, this special 2019 tour will once again be ‘raising welfare funds by the performance of live music by Royal Air Force musicians’. Indeed, despite being one of the newest and smallest of the family of RAF Service charities, with no employees and managed by just three trustees, over these years the charity has established itself as one of the most significant organisers of Royal Air Force charity concerts, whilst also donating in excess of £60,000 to various Service charities.

Malcolm Goodman says that “following the success of the RAF Centenary Concert in Lincoln Cathedral and other RAF100 events in 2018, it is a privilege to present so many concerts by some of the finest military musicians in the country. With performances by the Central Band of the RAF, Band of the RAF College and Band of the RAF Regiment, along with RAF Swing Wing and the Royal Air Force Squadronaires, this will be a very special celebration year for the RAF Music Charitable Trust.”

Following the concert in Scarborough, the RAF bands will perform in Newark, Doncaster, Weston Super Mare, and uniquely in the cathedrals of Exeter, Chester and Sheffield, along with a series of three concerts in London.

The charity was established by Sergeant (Ret.) Malcolm Goodman MBE who was then a serving member of the Band of the RAF Regiment, and also Public Relations and Marketing Manager for the RAF Music Services. In his role as Honorary Administrator, from the charity’s home in Newark he is supported by two other volunteer trustees, Warrant Officer (Ret.) Trevor McDonald and Sergeant (Ret.) John Baigent. As former RAF musicians, all three trustees are also veterans of the First Gulf War, having served together on active service at Field Hospitals in Saudi Arabia during the 1991 conflict.

Following the appointment of former Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Michael Graydon GCB CBE, the RAF Music Charitable Trust was registered with the Charity Commission in 2004.
