My Feminist Boner at Scarborough’s Stephen Joseph Theatre
Thursday 13 February at 7.45pm
From beauty product addict to born-again feminist, choreographer and comedian Sarah Blanc’s hilarious and part-autobiographical journey comes to Scarborough’s Stephen Joseph Theatre next month.
My Feminist Boner (Thursday 13 February at 7.45pm) grapples with extreme societal pressures on the female body, and the conflict women feel between indulging in the beauty industry and maintaining their feminist ideals.
Why does the world place such unattainable beauty standards on women? What does it mean to be a feminist today?
With honest confessionals, a show-and-tell of beauty contraptions, conversations with her feminist-hating Dad, progressively grotesque movement and satirical humour; Blanc reveals her anger at the commodification of women’s bodies and exposes the absurdity of the beauty industry.
First commissioned for Women of Mass Destruction platform at Richmix in 2015 and performed at Pulse Suitcase Prize Day 2016, My Feminist Boner has gone on to have sell-out performances at The Place, Brighton Fringe and Jackson’s Lane. It was nominated for a Brighton Fringe Award in 2017 and 2018.
