The exhibition is commemorating the centenary of Armistice Day and the origins of Occupational Therapy, and raising funds for Combat Stress, the veterans mental health charity. The project took as its starting point, the inspirational work instigated by Queen Mary at the end of WW1, namely Sweetheart Pincushions, which were pinned by soldiers as part of their convalescence. 1,568 sawdust-filled calico hearts were made and distributed to be embroidered and pinned by artists, needle workers and crafters from all over the country. The hearts have now been returned and are being curated into a major exhibition. All 1,568 hearts will be represented in the exhibition which is to be held at Woodend, in Scarborough from 3rd - 30th November 2018. The exhibition will be accompanied by original music by John Pattison. The response to the project has been overwhelming. As well as the exhibition and two special events, there will be a full-colour catalogue which has images of ALL 1,568 hearts, together with the name of the person who decorated it, background information about the project and original poetry and a playscript, which have all been commissioned for the project. Every heart will be returned to its owner at the end of the exhibition.
