1965. Five young women from Hull decide to start a girl band. Within months they are touring the local pubs and clubs and are soon asked to play for the US troops in Germany. Leaving behind their jobs as cleaners, dental assistants and waitresses, the teenagers embark on their journey to 'freedom'. However, it’s soon clear the troops are more interested in the length of their skirts. If these girls want success they will have to bite their tongues and learn to live with it.
It’s Different For Girls is a brand new musical inspired by Hull’s own 1960s girl band, Mandy & The Girlfriends, that documents the journey of five young women as they challenge the music industry and prove that they are not just ‘good for girls’.
