About us

PennyClare is a family-run shop and tea room housed within a beautiful barn in tranquil Newholm, just outside Whitby. We sell a huge variety of pine oak and painted furniture as well as contemporary pieces and unusual one-off items for the home. 

PennyClare is owned and run by two sisters with a passion for interiors and creating that homely feel and good homemade food. The barn is filled with beautiful, hand-picked gift items and they're only too happy to help you pick out the perfect item for your loved one. And after shopping, why not enjoy some delicious homemade food in our tea room?

We have a wide range of designs and styles to suit all tastes. We can obtain furniture from contemporary to vintage, whether you're looking for a new dining table, statement chair or a quirky piece of furniture that would bring character to a room, we have it all. Need a piece of furniture to fit into that awkward space? Newholm Tea Room

Have a bite to eat in our friendly and welcoming Newholm Tea Room, adjacent to the furniture barn. In our Tea Room, you can enjoy everything from breakfast to lunch and afternoon tea. We also have a new ‘lite bites’ menu, our usual specials board and an extensive range of vegan as well as gluten and dairy-free options. Serving fresh Italian coffee and Yorkshire tea in cosy surroundings.
Everything is homemade, including the jams and chutneys. We stock a range of delicious sauces and dressings with new additions arriving all the time.

Unique Gifts

PennyClare's barn is filled to the brim with gorgeous and unique gift items. We have a full range of modern, vintage and shabby chic accessories for the home. From candles to picture frames and everything in between you can find something for every room in your home, in a huge variety of styles. We recently added plants and plant hangers to our range so you can furnish your garden too! There's something for people of all ages and we regularly stock one-off and unique pieces. Your one-stop shop for the perfect gift!
